Vigna Pedale Riserva Magnum Torrevento 2017

The Vigna Pedale from the Torrevento winery is one of those red wines that certainly does not need any introduction, a red wine that has managed to represent the extraordinary potential of Nero di Troia and the terroir of Castel del Monte, a harsh and wild area located in the heart of the northwestern Murgia, in a land that the Torrevento winery loves to describe as: “where the history of men blends with the colors of nature”.

Here the climate is arid and dry, and the notable presence of stone is softened by the gentle contours of the hills and the perfectly aligned crops that are the most authentic fruit of the passion, dedication, and hard work of man. We are in the elective land of Nero di Troia, an ancient and indigenous grape variety that Torrevento has decided to revive with its Vigna Pedale. A grape variety difficult to tame, a quirky and angular grape, rough and impetuous. The Liantonio family, however, believed in it and from a 6-hectare bush vine, they gave birth to the Vigna Pedale project; a project fully successful that has captured the attention of the main Italian and foreign wine guides.

A very long maceration and an aging of 8 months in steel and 12 months in large barrels give the Vigna Pedale structure and elegance, softness and balance. A pure Nero di Troia with a great personality where the fruit dominates the scene in the first part of the tasting with notes of cherry and blackberries, then softened by spicy nuances of cardamom, black pepper, and cloves. The tannins are present and felt, but Torrevento's ability has also been in softening them, making them smooth and fine, making them perfect travel companions.
