White 'Le Chant du Coq' Le Chant 2023
Le Chant du Coq' by Le Chant is a white wine resulting from the collaboration between two entities, one French, the other South African. Rich and very fresh on the palate, it has layered aromas of orange blossom, apricot, hints of white apple and woody hints, due to partial maturation in French oak barrels. 'Le Chant du Coq' exudes style and elegance and pairs perfectly with seafood and soft cheeses
The White ‘Le Chant du Coq’ is a pure Chenin Blanc with a rich and full taste, yet not lacking in freshness, produced in South Africa by the winery Le Chant. The South African territory represents a second home for Chenin Blanc, a prized white grape variety native to the Loire Valley. It is the most cultivated grape in the country, where it is also known by the synonym “Steen” and to which over 18% of the entire vineyard area is dedicated. Chenin Blanc arrived in South Africa during the 17th century, where it was immediately appreciated for its high productivity and its ability to retain significant amounts of organic acids even in the hottest areas. Paradoxically, today South Africa has double the hectares dedicated to Chenin Blanc compared to France.
‘Le Chant du Coq’ Le Chant White is a 100% Chenin Blanc from vines grown in the cool oceanic climate of the Polkadraai area. The plants are approximately 35 years old and are cultivated in accordance with the principles of organic farming. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in white through soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must in partly in small stainless steel tanks and partly in old French oak barrels. The subsequent maturation phase takes place on the fine lees between oak, steel, and cement for about 8 months, after which blending and final bottling occur.
The Chenin Blanc ‘Le Chant du Coq’ White from Le Chant is of intense straw yellow color. The aromatic bouquet offers hints of white apple, apricot, and orange blossom, enriched by notes of flint and oak. On the palate, it reveals ample richness and full body, elements well balanced by sharp freshness and the persistent savory-mineral trail.
