Casaccia di Franceschi

Located between the prestigious Montalcino area and the green Maremma region, the Tuscan winery Casaccia di Franceschi was founded by Leopoldo Franceschi with the desire to interpret the terroir in a modern and international way. Leopoldo, a fifth-generation wine producer, is joined in his venture by his young children, Flavia and Federico, forming a close-knit family team. As mentioned, this winery is located between the Montalcino area, where Podere La Casaccia is situated, and Cinigiano, in the province of Grosseto, where the Le Spinaie estate is located. Specifically, Podere La Casaccia is in the Sant’Angelo in Colle district, at an altitude of 500 meters, while Le Spinaie is situated at 350 meters above sea level. In addition to wine production, the estate also includes olive groves and truffle fields.

The vineyard area of Casaccia di Franceschi, spread across Podere La Casaccia and Le Spinaie, covers a total of 15 hectares, dedicated to red grape varieties such as Sangiovese Grosso, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carmenere, all cultivated following organic farming principles. The vines grow on clay and limestone soils in the Montalcino area and on clay, marl, and sandy soils in the Maremma, ideal for growing international grape varieties. Harvesting is accompanied by a two-step meticulous selection process, both manual in the vineyard and machine-based in the winery, where advanced technologies like optical berry selectors are used. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, using the submerged cap technique, meaning that the pomace is always kept submerged in the fermenting must. For the aging phase, French and American oak barrels are used.

Whether it's the Brunello di Montalcino or the expressions made from international grapes grown in Maremma, the red wines signed by Casaccia di Franceschi stand out for their structure and intensity, with ripe fruit combined with a complex, spicy texture.
