Halarà is a beautiful artisanal project born from the collaboration between six close-knit winemakers intent on expressing the Mediterranean essence of Sicily. We are in the Marsala area, precisely in contrada Abbadessa, the place chosen by our protagonists for the start of this joint adventure, undertaken in 2019 after a holiday spent in Greece. They are Francesco De Franco of the Calabrian winery 'A Vita, Nino Barraco, Stefano Amerighi, Corrado Dottori of the Marche estate La Distesa, Giovanni Scarfone of the Sicilian winery Bonavita, and Francesco Ferreri of the Pantelleria winery Tanca Nica. Friendship and a shared passion for the artisanal winemaking world drove these six winemakers to take over a small 2-hectare plot, relying on the nearby Nino Barraco winery for vinification. The appellation Halarà, 'Χαλάρα' in Greek, can be translated as 'takeit easy', reflecting the mentality of the winemaker friends.

Under the Halarà project, the six winegrowers cultivate Catarratto and Parpato grapes, with the latter representing a rare black grape variety recently rediscovered. The vines are 40 years old and are grown using the Marsala bush system without the use of synthetic chemicals, in perfect synergy with the environment, on north-facing soils characterised by a high concentration of clay and limestone. Harvesting is carried out strictly by hand and in the cellar vinification is carried out partly whole cluster, excluding any manipulation and invasive additions. With this in mind, fermentation is entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts and clarification and filtration operations are banned, with very low quantities of sulphites added only at bottling. For the maturation phase, which takes place on the fine lees, steel tanks or chestnut wood barrels are used.

It is from these genuine prerequisites that Halarà's production takes shape, composed of white, red and rosé wines endowed with an authentic and sincere soul, characterised by a strong marine flavour, daughter of the territory.
