Founded in the late 1950s on a farm dating back to the 1700s and located on the island of Elba, between Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro, where there used to be a freshwater spring, the Acquabona winery has been led since 1986 by three agronomist friends who are in love with good wine and the beauty of the island: Marcello Fioretti, Ugo Lucchini and Lorenzo Capitani. Pioneers of an entrepreneurial choice that has invested in the recovery of the traditional viticulture that characterizes Elba's landscape, the three partners put into practice a business philosophy that includes the cultivation of the most characteristic native grape varieties, the preservation of the island's typical enological character, and respect for the environment and viticultural tradition.
Near the farm, Acquabona locality, there are 16 hectares of vineyards, where white grapes and a part of the red ones are grown; another two hectares, in Lacona locality, located at 150 meters above sea level and organized on ancient recovered terraces, are destined for the finest red grapes. The ancient local vines, widespread on the island since time immemorial, are affected by the beneficial Mediterranean and marine climate that allows them their best productive expression. The vineyards are immersed in a landscape of rare beauty, circled by Mediterranean scrub, facing the sea and facing noon, kissed by the sun from dawn to dusk.
Sons of the island tradition, re-proposed through the use of modern technology, the wines produced are distinguished by the richness of delicate, fragrant and very pleasant aromas, originality and a stylistic coherence due to the perfect correspondence to the most vocated typicality of the island. All thanks to the work and passion of the three partners who have made their winery one of the most important and appreciated realities of the Tuscan archipelago, the flagship of Elban enology.
