Bastianich

The Bastianich winery was founded in 1997 with the aim of creating wines with a strong personality that condense and celebrate the precious characteristics of the renowned terroir of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. At the helm of the winery is Joe Bastianich, the famous judge from Masterchef, considered one of the greatest personalities in the world of Italian and American gastronomy and catering. Before becoming a famous showman, he spent his childhood among his father Felice's and mother Lidia's New York restaurants, learning all the secrets of the trade. After a brief career on Wall Street, he decided to follow his family's great passion for gastronomy, intertwining entrepreneurial knowledge with his great skills as a chef. Thus, the foundation of the Bastianich estate, inaugurated in the homeland of his mother Lidia, aims to represent the cultural heritage that has personally involved the life of the creator and his family. This dedication to the world of wine represents something more, it is therefore a project ambitious and proud, which in addition to celebrating the return to origins and ancient roots, aims to compete, through high-quality wines, with the great names of the international market. Today, the know-how of the famous television personality materializes in the production of precious bottles that stand out, year after year, among the best and most prestigious in the region.

The vineyards of the Bastianich winery extend over an area of about 35 hectares along the hills of Buttrio and Premariacco and on the hills of Cividale del Friuli: while the former are embraced by the warmth of the sea, the latter are pervaded by the cold bora. The secret of success lies in the territory: the vines sink their roots into the soil locally known as “ponca”, a composition of layers of marl and loose sand, which gives the wines a magnificent mineral structure. Furthermore, Bastianich has made use of the secrets of local producers to retrace the ancient tradition of the place. In the winery, the operations, supervised by the oenologist Emilio del Medico, are minimally invasive and aim to enhance the characteristics varietals of the vines and the territorial notes of the place of origin.

The Bastianich wines are precise, clean, and typical expressions of the hilly territory of this Friulian area. Produced with international grape varieties or based on indigenous varieties like Ribolla Gialla, they are always expressions rich in scents and aromas, spokespersons of the territory and international taste. Noteworthy is the Vespa Bianco, one of his greatest insights that owes its name to the wasps that surround the clusters, which tells the potential of Friulian wines and Joe's great passion.
