Estate champenoise Bertrand-Delespierre impresses with its authentic and genuine Champagnes that are the result of an independent winemaking vision. We are at the foot of the Montagne de Reims, in the small village of Chamery, a town nestled in an amphitheater of vineyards surrounded by forest. Here in 1980, through the union of two winemaking families represented by Chantal Delespierre and Didier Bertrand, the history of the Bertrand-Delespierre winery originated. Today their children Adrien and Clémence nurture the family tradition by going on to constitute the sixth winemaking generation. They are independent winemakers who directly manage all stages of the production and marketing processes with the sole objective of emphasizing their terroir.
Domaine Bertrand-Delespierre consists of 10 hectares of vineyards spread over 60 plots scattered among the Premier Cru villages of Chamery, Ecueil, Villedommange and Montbré. The vineyards, which have an average age of about 30 years, are reserved for the three traditional Champagne varieties, namely Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, grown in a highly sustainable manner. Vinification begins with gentle pressing of the grapes, followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks or 600-liter oak barrels, depending on the plot from which the grapes come. To maintain the freshness and character of sparkling wines, malolactic fermentation is not usually carried out on vintage wines, whereas this does not apply to vin de reserve. After frothing, the wines undergo long aging on the lees in the bottle, lasting an average of 4 years.
The Bertrand-Delespierre winery's selection of labels is divided into several lines: 'Les Authentiques' encompasses traditional assemblage cuvées, 'Les Vins de Cépages' consists of vintage Champagnes produced exclusively in the best vintages, and, finally, 'Les Gastronomiques' includes deep and structured Champagnes with a gastronomic character. The style and types are thus quite diverse; what does not change, however, is the strong and recognizable personality signed Bertrand-Delespierre.
