Broglia

Broglia is one of the historic brands of the area of Gavi, a region famous for centuries for the production of great white wines. The estate was created in 1972 by Bruno Broglia, who purchased the ancient property of Count Raggio, and has managed to preserve its family character. Today it is run by the third generation, who carry on the project with passion and expertise, with the aim of enhancing the territory through the production of quality wines that can express the tradition of this corner of Piemonte. In a region famous mainly for the great reds of the Langhe, it has never been easy to bring out the excellence of white wines, but today Gavi represents a denomination that has managed to establish itself in the name of excellence.

The La Mairana estate extends over an area of about 100 hectares and represents the historical memory of the Gavi area. The first traces of vineyards in these lands date back to the 10th century AD and since then the area has always been vineyarded. The gentle hilly exposures, the highly suited soils, and a particularly mild climate, which is already influenced by the sea breezes, have always constituted the ideal habitat for the indigenous white grape variety Cortese, the true prince of the denomination. The proximity to Liguria has made this wine famous, very suitable for pairing with seafood cuisine, thanks to its delicate elegance. It is a very versatile grape from an enological point of view, which can be used to produce Metodo Classico Blanc de Blancs sparkling wines, fragrant and fruity whites, more structured and complex whites intended for aging, and passito wines.

Today the vineyards cover over sixty hectares and are managed in harmony with a natural context rich in biodiversity. Thanks to the collaboration with the University of Turin, studies have been conducted on the different clones of Cortese to improve quality in the vineyard. From an enological point of view, the winery has relied on the consultancy of Donato Lanati, one of the leading figuresof the wine world and particularly skilled in enhancing the typical indigenous grape varieties of each terroir. Thus, a range of wines has been created that today represents one of the most beautiful realities of the Gavi area and is articulated in a wide proposal of labels, all made with extreme care, in order to express the authentic personality of the grape variety and the peculiar characteristics of a great terroir.
