Calalta

Calalta is a small artisan reality located in the hilly area near Monte Grappa. The vineyards are cultivated at an altitude between 150 and 200 meters above sea level, within an area of 16 hectares, rich in fruit trees, olive groves, and woods, which ensure a rich environmental biodiversity. The pristine environmental context and a mild, sunny, and breezy climate provide the best conditions for quality viticulture. In the past, the estate produced grapes that were sold to other local realities and made a few bottles of wine to drink with family or share with friends. The turning point occurred in 2009, when an in-depth zoning work of the lands was undertaken and all the facilities were renewed, planting each variety in the most suitable place for soils and microclimate.

The estate extends overall over five hectares, with plots positioned in steep areas to favor sunlight and drainage. For the white grape varieties, fresh east-facing exposures were chosen, while for the red grapes, the parcels exposed to the west, so they can mature perfectly taking advantage of the sun's warmth until sunset.fresh east-facing exposures, while for red grapes the plots are west-facing, allowing them to ripen perfectly by taking advantage of the sun's warmth until sunset. The vineyards are managed according to the rules of organic farming, without the use of chemicals or herbicides. To improve soil fertility, green manure is practiced by sowing grasses and legumes. To achieve high-quality grapes, the vines are planted with a high density of vines per hectare and are managed with low yields per plant. The selected grape varieties are those that have proven most suitable for the area: Incrocio Manzoni, Riesling, and Bronner for whites, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache, and Syrah for reds.

The same care given in the vineyard is applied in the winery. The grapes selected during harvest are further checked on the sorting table, ensuring that only perfectly healthy grapes proceed to vinification. Fermentations occur spontaneously, using only indigenous yeasts and without the addition of additives. The wines are bottled only after racking, without clarification or filtration and with a very low use of sulfur dioxide, to preserve the integrity of the grapes. This results in labels that are a pure and direct expression of the vineyard, characterized by a straightforward and genuine profile.
