Castello dei Rampolla
Castello dei Rampolla is a family-run winery located in the valley of the “Conca d’Oro”, south of Panzano in Chianti. Its history began in 1965 when Alceo di Napoli Rampolla inherited the Santa Lucia in Faulle estate from his father. Alceo then started a modernization process of the winery together with his wife Livia Borgia and their four children. The first harvest, in 1975, produced the first bottle of Chianti Classico, at a time when this type of wine struggled to establish itself. Today the winery is managed by Luca and Maurizia.
The vineyard extends over 40 hectares of limestone soils with galestro and clay presence and has been run according to the biodynamic method since 1994. The vines are south-facing and are trained as bush vines. In a traditionally suited area for Sangiovese, Alceo decided to plant, with the help of his winemaker friend Giacomo Tachis, Cabernet Sauvignon, with excellent results.
In the winery, all operations are aimed at preserving the original quality of the grapes, in order to obtain wines that are an authentic expression of the territory. Sangiovese is fermented in terracotta amphorae without the addition of sulfites, while the other grape varieties are vinified in cement tanks. The aging takes place in wooden barrels and its duration varies depending on the wine from 12 to 18 months. The wines of Castello dei Rampolla are elegant wines, with great personality and balance. They genuinely reflect the characteristics of the Chianti Classico territory.
