Clos Siguier
Clos Siguier is an ancient production reality from Cahors, an area belonging to the wine region of Sud Ouest, founded back in 1779. Gilles Bley represents the umpteenth generation at the helm of this Domaine located in Boutet, who, together with his partner Pauline and son Baptiste, lovingly and dedicatedly tends to the vineyards. The family's intention is to offer quality labels that respect the traditional productions of the territory while keeping pace with modern times. Following the crisis caused by phylloxera, Gilles' ancestors almost abandoned viticulture to engage in livestock farming, only to resume viticulture in the early post-war period and, definitively, in the '60s. The aging facilities are located in the historic vaulted cellar of the Bley family, which testifies to their long winemaking tradition.
The Clos Siguier estate extends over 15 hectares of vineyards, mainly dedicated to Malbec, the symbol grape of Cahors, locally called Auxerrois or Côt, alongside smaller percentages of Tannat and Mauzac. The plants, rooted in the calcareous soils of the Causse plateau at an altitude reaching 360 meters above sea level, are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and the winemaking approach is minimalist, based on the non-invasiveness of the production process. In this perspective, alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation occur spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts and lactic acid bacteria, and throughout the entire processing, no enzymes or other enological aids are used, also rejecting the use of clarifications and filtrations. For vinification and aging, the Bley family adopts cement tanks, steel containers, and wooden barrels, depending on the label in question.
Compared to the common production of Cahors, the expressions of Clos Siguier are lighter and more dynamic, thanks to the calcareous plateau on which the vineyards rest, not lacking, however, the characteristic structure of the wines from the area.
