Duemani is an important Tuscan winery, the brainchild of renowned oenologist Luca d'Attoma and his wife Elena Celli to produce elegant wines from international varieties, made by embracing the principles of biodynamic agriculture. The winery, founded in 2000 in Riparbella, in the province of Pisa, is located in a magnificent area close to the Tuscan coast. Luca is in charge of the vineyard and wine, drawing on his extensive training and experience, while Elena is the commercial and administrative driving force behind the estate.
The Duemani winery consists of 12 hectares of vineyards located within an unspoilt natural amphitheatre, where the soils consist mainly of clay, with a high presence of stones, and the altitudes are between 200 and 300 metres above sea level. Here the international grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot are grown, which have found an exceptional habitat in this slice of Tuscany rich in Mediterranean scrub and lapped by the Tyrrhenian sea breezes. In addition, the considerable sunshine and the important daily temperature ranges during the ripening period of the grapes contribute to the extraordinary quality of the grapes. In order to preserve the health of the land and at the same time enhance its unique expression, Luca and Elena chose to follow the dictates of biodynamics right from the start. Different types of wine containers, such as terracotta amphorae, cement vats and French oak barrels, are used in the processing and ageing of the wines, depending on the label in question. Fermentation occurs spontaneously and the masses are not subjected to clarification or filtration.
The interpretations of Luca d'Attoma and Elena Celli's Duemani estate, almost exclusively monovarietal, succeed in combining the fascinating characteristics of international grape varieties with the identity personality of the Tuscan coast. The result is enveloping and expressive wines of rare pleasantness and class. At the top of the range are the 'Duemani' and 'Suisassi', respectively a Cabernet Franc and a Syrah in purity, quintessentially varietal and territorial.
