Georges Klein
By adopting a truly sustainable production approach, aimed at safeguarding the environment and biodiversity, the family-run winery Georges Klein produces fine wines and Crémant in Alsace. The estate is located in Saint-Hyppolite, between Sélestat and Colmar, a municipality where the Klein family has been dedicated to viticulture since 1620. Today, at the helm of the Domaine are Jean Klein and his parents Véronique and Auguste, with Jean responsible for the technical-enological aspect, Véronique engaged in wine sales, and Auguste, a photography and nature enthusiast, working in the vineyards.
The Domaine Georges Klein spans just over 12 hectares of vineyards, located in 4 different municipalities and dedicated to traditional Alsatian grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner, and Pinot Noir, as well as Chardonnay, used for sparkling wine production. In the municipality of Saint-Hyppolite, there are soils rich in granite and iron, ideal for cultivating black grape varieties. In the small village of Rorschwihr, the soils are predominantly clayey while in Scherwiller gravel prevails. Finally, in the municipality of Kintzheim, the soil consists of loess deposited on a granitic substrate. All vineyards are managed under certified organic regime and Domaine Georges Klein was the first Alsatian estate to obtain HVE certification (High Environmental Value). Furthermore, the Domaine applies agroforestry principles, planting hedges and rare trees between the plots, especially in the most prestigious vineyard, the Clos de K, thus promoting biodiversity.
The selection of Domaine Georges Klein is quite varied, aimed at offering genuine expressions of the Alsatian territory. Whites, reds, rosés, and Crémant represent the types of wines produced by the winery, some characterized by a traditional style while others have an innovative character. All labels strive to faithfully express the attributes of the vineyards from which they come.
