Villet Gerard
Through a spontaneous and genuine style, Domaine Villet Gerard faithfully interprets the territory of Arbois, an area of excellence in the Jura wine region. To understand the extraordinary vocation of this area, it suffices to think that Arbois is among the first AOCs established in all of France, back in 1936. The history of this family-run winery, now managed by Gerard Villet and his wife Christine, began in the early 1900s. Gerard takes care of everything related to viticulture and winemaking, while Christine is responsible for the commercial and administrative aspects.
Gerard Villet has just over 5 hectares of vineyards, spread across 7 different parcels and operated under organic regime since 1988, making him one of the first producers to embrace this type of agriculture in Jura. The soils on which the plants are rooted are predominantly composed of clay and limestone. Here, the cultivated grape varieties include the indigenous Savagnin, Poulsard, and Trousseau, alongside two Burgundy varieties traditionally grown in the area.with superlative results: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In fact, approximately half of the estate's hectares are dedicated to Chardonnay, a variety that is said to reach its highest qualitative expression in Jura, second only to Burgundy. Once ripe, all the grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and then transferred to the winery where fermentation occurs spontaneously thanks to the intervention of indigenous yeasts. The fermentation process is generally carried out in stainless steel, while aging takes place in used barriques, often left empty to promote the proliferation of flor yeasts. These fungi create a characteristic surface veil protecting the wine from uncontrolled oxidation and simultaneously developing peculiar aromas.
Whether white or red, the wines of Villet Gerard winery stand out for their sublime expressive depth capable of revealing the purest soul of Arbois.
