Richard Henri

The Domaine Henri Richard is a Burgundy winery that stands out for its traditional and elegant style, respectful of nature. We are in Côte de Nuits, in the renowned village of Gevrey-Chambertin, which gives its name to the homonymous AOC, famous for its solid, structured, and incredibly long-lived Pinot Noir. The history of this family-run winery began in 1938 with Jean Richard, a cooper by profession who purchased the first plot in Mazoyères-Chambertin. A year later, Jean's son, Henri, graduated in oenology, managing the Domaine until 1977, when he was succeeded first by his son-in-law Jean Bastien and then, in 1990, by his daughter Margaret. Today, at the helm of the estate is the fourth generation, represented by Richard and Sarah Bastien, children of Jean and Margaret.

The Domaine Henri Richard cultivates 4.5 hectares of vineyards in accordance with the principles of organic farming, certified since the early years of the new millennium, and biodynamic farming, also certified. In addition to Pinot Noir, the flagship grape of the area,Sarah and Richard raise a small quantity of Aligoté. After the harvest, which is strictly manual, the grapes are transferred to the winery where they are vinified, often partially whole, in oak barrels. The diktat provides for minimal oenological intervention, with skin macerations that are never pushed beyond 21 days and are associated with delicate extraction techniques. Aging takes place in oak barrels, almost always of multiple passes, as the wood must represent a support for the wine, not a contamination. Once the maturation period is over, the masses are finally bottled without undergoing any filtration.

Among the flagship crus, the Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Aux Corvées’ and ‘Les Tuileries’ undoubtedly stand out, pure and refined expressions of the extraordinary and ancient terroir from which they descend. Furthermore, the labels of Henri Richard are endowed with an extraordinary longevity, quantifiable in decades.
