Il Borro

Il Borro is an important Tuscan winery, located near San Giustino Valdarno, north of Arezzo. The estate extends around the homonymous village, a small medieval jewel carefully restored, which represents the heart of the property. A place out of time, allowing one to immerse in the tranquility marked by the rhythms of nature, within a landscape context of extraordinary beauty. Its history is linked to important Italian families, from the Medici to the Torriani, up to the Savoia, who managed the property over the centuries. In 1993, the estate was purchased by Ferruccio Ferragamo, who restored the village to its ancient splendor, renovated the historic buildings, and reinstated the agricultural vocation of the place, replanting the vineyards and olive groves.

Within the vast estate, the vineyards are cultivated only in the areas historically most suited. The vineyards cover an area of about 85 hectares, divided into various plots, located in the magnificent hilly area of Valdarno, at an altitude between 300 and 500.meters above sea level. The splendid sunny exposures and the mild, breezy climate allow for the maturation of healthy grapes rich in aromas. The soils are predominantly composed of sands and clays of ancient lacustrine origin, rich in skeleton, resting on a mother rock of sandstone and Tuscan pietra forte. The vineyards have been replanted after careful zoning work, which allowed for a deep understanding of the characteristics of the various plots and to choose the best location for each grape variety.

Thus, the varieties, clones, and rootstocks most suitable for the pedoclimatic conditions of each place have been chosen. In addition to Sangiovese, the prince of Tuscan autochthonous grape varieties, the estate also cultivates several international grapes, which have proven particularly suitable for the terroir, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chardonnay. In the countryside, the rules of organic and biodynamic agriculture are followed, without the use of pesticides and with only natural fertilizations. The entire estate is managed with particular attention.to eco-sustainability, using renewable energies and electric transport means. The wines of Il Borro are a perfect synthesis of the best Tuscan tradition and an international style.
