In the ancient castle of Bernkastel-Wehlen, in Germany in the amazing Moselle Valley, the family Prum manages the winery of the same name, cultivating and producing riesling wine since over 400 years. The history of the winery J.J. Prum began in 1911 with its founder Johann Josef Prum and is now run by Dr. Manfred Prum, grandson of J.J, and her daughter Dr. Katharina. The cellar J.J. Prum is one of the most famous reality producing German riesling as is witnessed by the fact that some of his bottles of particularly favorable years have achieved qualitative assessments of 100/100, reaching prices of thousands of dollars per bottle. The vineyard is divided into several plots, all located in areas that are particularly favorable to winemaking that ensure excellent results to the Prum family. Among these is the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, which takes its name from the sundial (Sonnenuhr) that the great-grandfather of Manfred had placed in the vineyard. Dr. Prum is very tied to the traditions of his family and it is showed in his work where, in the management of the vineyards and in the cellar operations, he does not like the modern production technologies. Every year, to ensure the highest quality to its wines, Prum begins the harvest later than the other winemakers of the region: one year he finished harvest even in mid-November. The harvest, all absolutely manual, is followed by a meticulous selection of bunches and berries (Ausluse) and the wine is made in stainless steel, never use wood. The result that comes out is one of the most extraordinary white wine of the world: still today we can find excellent bottles vintage 1949. The Riesling Auslese Bernkasteler that we propose is a "troken," that is a dry wine, which can be stored in the cellar for many years and will pleasantly surprise when, in a few years, you will taste it.
