Jean Fournier

The Fournier family has been dedicated to viticulture since the 17th century, constituting one of the oldest production realities of Marsannay-la-Côte. However, it was only in the 1960s that Jean Fournier began to bottle internally and sell his wine independently. In 2001, Jean was joined by his son Laurent, who took the helm of the winery two years later. Today, Laurent Fournier is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated and talented vigneron in the entire Marsannay area, who, since his entry into the Domaine, has introduced a series of innovations such as green harvesting and cold maceration of the must. The first technique is carried out a few weeks before the harvest and consists of removing the clusters of lower qualitative potential in order to favor the perfect ripening of the remaining grapes. Instead, the cold maceration of the must aims to enhance the aromatic profile of the finished wine.

allocated to Pinot Noir and the remaining 5 mostly occupied by Chardonnay, alongside which are Aligoté, Pinot Blanc, and other white grape varieties. The vines, with an average age of over 50 years, rest on predominantly limestone soils and have been managed under organic certification since 2008, integrated with biodynamic practices. As for the reds, the true pride of the Domaine, the vinifications are mostly carried out with whole clusters, as per Burgundian tradition, with spontaneous fermentations in concrete tanks, macerations on the skins of at least 20 days, and complete malolactic fermentation. The resulting maturation periods last approximately 18 months and take place on fine lees in medium and large barrels. The masses clarify spontaneously through static decantation, and the wines are finally bottled according to the lunar calendar.

Laurent Fournier is certainly one of those figures who is contributing to the enhancement of the Marsannay territory, thanks to vibrant wines with strong personality that, while being "simple" Village, can easily compete with much more renowned Premier and Grand Cru. Laurent is particularly attached to two of his climat: ‘Clos du Roy’ and ‘Les Longeroies’, adjacent parcels located in the northern part of the area.
