Lecompte
The French brand Lecompte is dedicated to the production of precious and traditional Calvados in Normandy, the homeland of this distillate with fascinating organoleptic properties. The Maison was founded back in 1923 by Alexandre Lecompte, an entrepreneur who sold his wine and distillates trading business in Normandy to develop and market old reserves of Calvados. In 1945, his son took over the family business and two years later purchased the first still, officially giving life to the distillery within the municipality of Reux, in the heart of the prestigious and most restrictive production area of Calvados Pays d'Auge. Surrounded by the best apple orchards that characterize the region, the Maison includes eight underground cellars where hundreds of small oak barrels containing the precious distillate rest. At the origin of the Calvados from the Lecompte estate is a meticulous selection process of ciders produced with the four main types of Norman apples: sweet, bittersweet, bitter, and sour. Once the ideal blend, the Maître de chai and Maître distillateur Sylvain Pluchard proceeds with a double distillation inside small and traditional copper Pot stills, carefully extracting only the heart of the distillate. At this point, the precious liquid undergoes a long aging process in small 180-liter French oak barrels, for periods that can even exceed 18 years, during which Sylvain periodically tastes the Calvados. The tasting aims to establish the perfect moment to proceed with bottling and to determine the ideal blending between the barrels, aimed at obtaining always balanced and harmonious Calvados. The Calvados Pays d'Auge signed by Maison Lecompte are offered in four different lines: 'Revelation', 'Les Signatures', 'Les Millésimes' and 'Le Secret'. All these distillates reflect the savoir-faire of one of the most important Maisons in the entire Calvados Pays d'Auge territory, capable of embodying the ancient taste of tradition.
