Lucy Margaux

Lucy Margaux, abbreviated as Lucy M, represents a winemaking reality with a spontaneous and artisanal spirit located in Basket Range, a small town in the Adelaide Hills region, South Australia. The estate was founded by Anton Von Klopper, a South African winemaker who, after graduating in Adelaide, began to collect a series of experiences at important wineries around the world. In 2002, he returned home with his wife Sally and daughter Lucy, deciding to purchase 6 hectares of land to dedicate himself to viticulture according to his own beliefs. Anton is one of the pioneers of artisanal wine in Australia.

Since its foundation, the production philosophy embraced was "simple": to produce wine only with grapes. Contrary to what one might think, this approach is quite rare and complicated. On one hand, excluding additions and corrections in the cellar means increasing risks and unpredictability, but on the other hand, it indicates the desire to offer genuine interpretations that manifest as authentic expressions of the territory, opposed to the endless array of wines made with standard recipes.authentic expressions of the territory, opposed to the endless array of wines made with standard recipes. This leads to substantial variations from year to year and often even from bottle to bottle, but this too is part of the magic of wine! Pinot Nero was the variety on which Anton initially focused his efforts, soon joined by other grape varieties such as Gamay, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay. The agronomic practices adopted refer to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, while in the cellar any enological additives, including sulfur, are excluded. The fermentations are, needless to say, strictly spontaneous, often accompanied by carbonic maceration for the red grape varieties, which are processed in different types of winemaking vessels. Finally, the masses undergo no clarification or filtration, so that in the bottle one can find a "squeezed expression of terroir".
