The Masseria Altemura winery was established in the heart of the Salento region, between the towns of Torre Santa Susanna and Oria, in the province of Brindisi. A landmark brand in the area, owned by the Zonin family, it was created in 2000 from the merger of two estates, Palombardo and Monteverde, and today covers an area of 270 hectares, 150 of which are dedicated exclusively to vines and 40 to olive groves. To date, one belief has marked the path of this reality: to create modern expressions of quality that embody the territorial essence of Salento and represent a path of rebirth of Apulian viticulture. Everything started with the restoration of the old estate in complete respect of the environment and its ancient origins. The chianche, carparo, tuff and white stone (materials present in this place) were used to shape the current centre of the estate. The soil was obtained by crushing large blocks of limestone present in the area and mixing them with the surrounding soil in different concentrations. This explains why there are different shades of colour, which are sometimes lighter when the white stone emerges, leading to varying degrees of light reflection and therefore different ripening periods for the grapes.

The Masseria Altemura winery, located inland and equally distant from the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, cultivates the typical grape varieties of the area, with a strong vocation for the Primitivo. In addition to the classic Negroamaro, Aglianico Susumaniello and Malvasia Nera varieties, there are also other white grapes, such as Falanghina and Fiano, of Hellenic origin, yet which have been present and wonderfully adapted to these lands for decades. In the modern wine cellar, which was opened in 2012, the grapes are carefully fermented in temperature-controlled steel containers with long macerations on the skins and then aged in wood (large Slavonian oak barrels or French oak tonneaux), especially for the fuller-bodied and more structured red versions.

The wines of Masseria Altemura are the symbol of the authentic Salento region and revive the traditional taste of the ancient art of winemaking in Apulia. These reds, whites and sparkling wines reflect the warm, Mediterranean side of the land that nurtured them. Sun, wind and the warmth of Salento are mixed in a unique and decidedly territorial taste.
