Montenegro

The Montenegro Group was founded in 1885 and today represents one of the most important Italian realities in the quality alcoholic beverage sector. The flagship of the brand is Amaro Montenegro, which is one of the most well-known and loved liqueurs, not only in Italy. At the origin of its creation, there is a character with an enterprising and creative spirit. Stanislao Cobianchi was born in 1862, an enthusiastic alchemist, who embarked at a young age on a merchant ship. During the long journey, he discovered many unknown botanical species, and once back in Italy, he decided to put his knowledge and experiences to good use by dedicating himself to the preparation of liqueurs and elixirs based on herbs and spices.

After four years of trials and experiments, in 1885 he created the recipe for an amaro and founded in Bologna the "Cobianchi Stanislao Steam Distillery". The name chosen for the amaro is Elisir di lunga vita which will become Montenegro in homage to the royal family of the House of Savoy, after the marriage of Vittorio Emanuele III to the princess Elena of Montenegro. Already attentive to marketing and communication issues, Stanislao Cobianchi decided to create for his amaro a special bottle, reminiscent of the shape of the ancient flasks of alchemists. Thus was born the bottle that has remained essentially unchanged to this day. The commercial success of Montenegro is immediate. Already in the early years of the '900, it is exported to many European countries and in the post-war period, it establishes itself as one of the most well-known liqueur brands, also thanks to successful advertising campaigns that strengthen its identity.

The secret of Amaro Montenegro lies in a secret recipe made with 40 botanicals, which has remained unchanged over time and in careful processing methods that have preserved the artisanal attention of its origins. Today the brand is part of the Montenegro Group, which manages many brands of famous alcoholic beverages and important realities in the food sector. A collection of companies selected for the quality of their

products and for being a true expression of the best Italian tradition. The group is present with its products in 70 countries around the world.
