Nino Negri is one of the largest and best known wine producers in the Valtellina region. The origins of the winery date back to 1897, when the founder, originally from the small town of Aprica, decided to set up a small business in Chiuro producing typical wines. The family business underwent an important qualitative development under the guidance of his son Carluccio and then under the guidance of his grandson Carlo Negri, the creator of a great success since the 1950s. In 1956 the first Sfursat was conceived and produced, a type destined to rewrite the history and traditions of the area. Over the years, the winery has absorbed other small producers and is now part of the Gruppo Italiano Vini cooperative, which has transformed it into an important centre for the production of quality wines. A key role in its international success has been played by winemaker-manager Casimiro Maule who, in addition to his own vineyards, has had the merit of managing with great care the estates of another 280 small wine growers who are members of the cooperative, playing a key role in the enhancement of the territory.

The vineyards owned by the Nino Negri winery and those of the contributing members are managed with great attention to environmental sustainability. The exposures, soil and climate characteristics favour the production of top quality grapes, thanks also to a qualified, top-level team that has chosen a production philosophy that favours the use of green manure and rigorous pruning, as well as avoiding the use of herbicides and chemical fertilisers. The installation of weather stations at various points throughout the territory makes it possible to monitor the climate of each vineyard and to contribute, together with nature, to obtaining only the best from each harvest.

In the large Nino Negri cellar, housed in the historic rooms of the 15th century Palazzo Quadrio, there are 1500 new French oak barriques and more than 100 barrels of different sizes, where the red wines can mature, acquiring elegance and character. The winery's cult label is the Sforzato 5 Stelle, a robust red wine that expresses all the character of the region and of Valtellina's tradition, but the expressions of Valtellina Superiore from the Inferno, Grumello and Sassella subzones are also renowned and appreciated, and have contributed to promoting and making a surprising and extraordinarily suitable production area famous throughout the world.
