Pietracupa
That Irpinia could offer fresh, rich, and fragrant wines has been known for a long time, but that they could yield interpretations of exceptional complexity, long-lived, authentically mineral is what the Pietracupa winery has revealed to us. This credit, to be shared with a few other wineries in the area, surely goes to Sabino Loffredo, a man of explosive personality, who has always sought to compare himself with the greatest white wines in the world.
The story of Pietracupa begins in the early seventies when Peppino Loffredo acquires a property on the hill of Montefredano, near Avellino. His return to the countryside was motivated by the desire to produce a Fiano for himself and his closest friends. Everything changes, however, in 1999, when his son Sabino joins the company after working on ships around the world. Thus, the Pietracupa project is born: from Sabino's incredible desire to professionally measure himself against the world of wine, which was in great ferment during those years. Today, thirteen years later, we can affirm that the small winery has come a long way, establishing itself in the Campania landscape in a decisive and clear manner.
The Pietracupa winery is now run by Carmine Valentino, a great interpreter of Campanian white wines and a great Taurasi. The Fiano is cultivated around the house-winery, on about one and a half hectares of clay-limestone soil; the Greco is produced from vineyards rented in nearby Santa Paolina, a region of great winemaking vocation capable of giving life to high-quality wines.
