Pio Cesare

The Pio Cesare winery boasts, with its glorious and centuries-old history, important records that make it one of the most famous and significant production realities of the Langhe. It was founded in Alba in 1881 by entrepreneur Cesare Pio, a great wine enthusiast and pioneer of values such as quality and stylistic originality. By the early 1900s, its brand was already known throughout Europe, becoming a reference for Piedmontese wine in the world. A fame and prestige in the national and international market that has continued first under the guidance of Rosy Pio and her husband Giuseppe Boffa and, today, under that of their son Pio Boffa. It currently exports to over 50 countries and is one of the most famous and important Italian wineries, known both by the general public and by enthusiasts.

The vineyard heritage extends over a total of 70 hectares among the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco and boasts particularly suited plots, such as the Bricco di Treiso vineyard and the Ornato in Serralunga d'Alba, along with many important crus. Each of these vineyards is included in the list of Additional Geographical Mentions of the regulations of Barolo and Barbaresco. The winery, located in the historic center of Alba, is spread over 4 floors below the level of the Tanaro river and, in addition to representing the ideal environment for the production, aging, and conservation of wine, is also an important piece of history. It was indeed excavated and built in the 18th century and is bordered by the ancient Roman walls of Alba Pompeia. In this very evocative historical context, the wines are produced according to the classical and traditional practice of blending the characteristics of the vineyards, rather than vinifying separately by cru. This is how it was done in the 19th century and this has remained the family's production method.

Faithfulness to a classic style, qualitative consistency, and great care in the vineyard and winery characterize the entire production. The wines of Pio Cesare are an important historical witness and an example of quality and prestige that still sets the standard today. They represent the history and tradition of the Langhe, but also their future and their success in Italy and in the world.
