Punta Aria - Pinnata di Pollastri
Punta Aria is a dream that has come true. A project born from the desire of Francangelo Pollastri to create a place suspended in time, a sort of small oasis or retreat where he could bring his passions to life. It all began when in the early 2000s Pollastri decided to create an agriturismo with a vineyard on the island of Vulcano, in the Sicilian archipelago of the Aeolian Islands. The chosen location is Punta Bandiera, at the southeastern tip of the island. A small black sand beach, and a few ruins, immediately ignite his imagination and the desire to transform that abandoned place, overrun by the underbrush of the Mediterranean scrub, into a small jewel.
Thus the Punta Aria winery was born. With the underbrush cleared away, the original beauty of a small cove already famous in Roman times has been brought back to light, the beach of Canitello has returned to shine, and not far away is the vineyard of Malvasia delle Lipari. The Mediterranean climate, warm and windy, is tempered by the presence of the sea. The volcanic soils are predominantly composed of sands and lava rocks, rich in mineral substances. In this perfect environmental setting, Malvasia has found a perfect habitat for expressing great wines for millennia. The ancient grape variety of Greek origin, named after the port of Monemvasia in the Peloponnese, arrived in the Aeolian Islands in ancient times, perhaps with the first Mycenaean navigators or with the subsequent Greek colonization of the 5th-4th century BC. Since then, it has always been the symbol of viticulture in the Sicilian archipelago, producing one of the most interesting passito wines in the entire Mediterranean, a true delicacy loved by all enthusiasts.
Malvasia is a grape variety of great aromatic richness, reaching full maturity with a high sugar content. These particular characteristics have always made it a grape very suitable for the production of sweet wines. At the end of the harvest, the golden bunches of Malvasia are naturally dried in the sun and wind of the island of Vulcano. During the drying period, the grapes slowly dehydrate, concentrating the sugars and aromas. The dried grapes are fermented very slowly. At the end of the process, a natural residual sugar remains, making the wine particularly smooth and seductive. The Malvasia Passita is a liquid gold of great charm, produced absolutely naturally, without the addition of alcohol. It is an ancient wine, captivating for its intense and rich aromas, for its soft and sweet sip, for its complexity and persistence.
