Sanchez Romate
For over 240 years, Sanchez Romate has been producing great wines and spirits in the area of Jerez de la Frontera, located in the Spanish region of Andalusia in the west. The Mediterranean climate and the soils have always been very suitable for viticulture. The presence of indigenous grape varieties: Palomino, Moscatel, and Pedro Ximénez makes these wines unique and absolutely inimitable. The winery was established in 1781 by Juan Sánchez de la Torre and is still managed by the same family today, who continue the production thanks to a savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation. Its wines represent the history and tradition of Andalusia, known and appreciated all over the world.
The origins of viticulture in these lands are ancient. More than 3000 years ago, the Phoenicians created the first commercial ports along the coast of Cadiz and also introduced grape cultivation. Later, the Romans developed viticulture throughout the Iberian Peninsula, consolidating a tradition that has never been interrupted until today. In the 14th and 15th centuries, Jerez wines were already famous in Spain, and then also conquering international markets, particularly the English one. The production area of Jerez and Manzanilla wines is located in the municipalities of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Trebujena, Chipiona, Rota, Puerto Real, Chiclana de la Frontera, and Lebrija.
The area is divided into “Jerez Superior”, characterized by albariza soils, composed of white earth with a high percentage of calcium carbonate, and in “Zona de Crianza” which extends between Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, which instead delimits the area where wines can be aged. The Sánchz Romate winery has vineyards in two different estates: Pago Añina, located near the coast, and Pago Cuartillo, which is located inland and is the area dedicated to the production of Oloroso type wines. Thanks to these particular environmental conditions and centuries of experience, Sanchez Romate is able to offer a wide range of labels of the types: Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, and Brandy de Jerez.
