Tenute Rubino

Officially founded in 2000, the Apulian reality Tenute Rubino aims to be an authentic promoter of regional winemaking, with its indigenous varieties and traditional practices, while showing great openness to modern technologies. In fact, the roots of the winery go back to the 1980s, when Tommaso Rubino started a viticultural project aimed at highlighting the enological face of Puglia, purchasing land in the inland of Brindisi and recovering local grape varieties like Susumaniello, which was almost forgotten at the time. The turning point came in 1999 when, following the entry of Luigi Rubino, Tommaso's son, wine production began, with the first labels presented the following year. Luigi's intention is to develop the work started by his father, supported by his wife Romita, who is responsible for the commercial aspect and communication. Today, the estate counts five different estates: Jaddico, Palombara, Uggìo, Punta Aquila, and Marmorelle, each designed for the cultivation of specific varieties.

Tenute Rubino has over 280 hectares of owned vineyards, entirely dedicated to the indigenous grape varieties Primitivo, Negroamaro, Verdeca, Alessano, Minutolo Bianco, Ottavianello, and, above all, Susumaniello. The soils, as well as the altitudes, vary depending on the area of origin of the grapes, with medium-textured soils or those with a predominant clay, sandy, silty, or calcareous component, often rich in skeleton. In the winery, fermentations take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, usually with complete malolactic fermentation. For the subsequent aging phase, containers made of steel or French oak barrels of different types and capacities are always used.

The wide production of Tenute Rubino consists of wines that reflect the characteristics of the territory and the varieties of origin, exported to over 20 countries around the world, from the United States to New Zealand, passing through Brazil, China, and Japan. Within the selection, the two company crus stand out without a shadow of a doubt, two company crus: ‘Torre Testa’ and ‘Visellio’, respectively a Susumaniello and a Primitivo.
