Villa Matilde is a winery in the Campania region, and is located in the town of Cellole, which is in the province of Caserta. Its history began in the 1960s, when Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer with a passion for wine, decided to bring this legendary wine back into the spotlight after being fascinated by the writings of Pliny, Virgil, Martial and Horace on the "Falernum". Paolo therefore began a journey with some professors from the Faculty of Agriculture in Naples, identifying, after years of research, a few strains that had survived the phylloxera and replanting them in the area of Massico, which is not far from where Villa Matilde is located today. It was the beginning of a splendid story, which continues today with Maria Ida and Salvatore, Paolo's children. They are the architects of the winery's new expansion into the Benevento Sannio area, where the Tenuta Rocca dei Leoni estate was purchased, and into the Irpinia DOCG area, where the Tenuta d'Altavilla estate was created. Villa Matilde is the representative of territorial values in which history has great importance, and is particularly attentive to enhancing the new strengths of the company's work, which are respect for the environment and a focus on new technologies.

The vineyards owned by Villa Matilde extend over about 120 hectares of land, which are divided between the Cellole area, and the Altavilla and Rocca dei Leoni estates, respectively in the province of Avellino and in the Sannio area of Benevento. These are different areas, with varying subsoil compositions. In the vineyards, great emphasis is placed on native white and red grapes, such as Aglianico, Piedirosso, Falanghina, Greco and Fiano. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, the production philosophy can be summarised with these brief but very descriptive concepts: quality, eco-sustainability, culture of the territory and technological development. This mix of ideas and visions has resulted in a number of different endeavours, including projects such as "Emissioni Zero", which is an ambitious programme that aims to reduce the production of greenhouse gases to zero, and specific plans for the recovery of irrigation water.

The wines of Villa Matilde reflect a family's love for Campania's oldest vines, particularly Aglianico, Piedirosso and Falanghina. They are reinterpreted in wines that start with respect for tradition and then develop creative concepts that transport the link between man and land into the future. This is a range that offers genuine wines that are not mass-produced and that are appreciated by all true enthusiasts and connoisseurs. The Falerno del Massico, in both its white and red versions, is the starting point for enjoying the wine from which Villa Matilde's history originates.
