Alsace is known worldwide for its white wines, and here, in the village of Turckheim there is the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, run by Olivier Humbrecht, near the city of Colmar, not far from the German border. This Domaine was founded in 1959, when the two farms and families Zind and Humbrecht have merged into one, but among the members of Humbrecht family there were winemakers already three centuries before, since 1620.

The dates that have most deeply influenced the history of the Domaine are two; in 1992 the Company leaves the old cellar of Wintzenhiem to move to the new one, in the middle of Herrenweg vineyards, more practical and equipped with all the latest equipment for wine-making; another important date is 2003, when the Domaine earns the certification of biodynamic viticulture for all the 40 hectares of its vineyards.

The last, but not least, date in the history of Zind Hubrecht is 1993, when in the winemaking process the "Chaptalisation”, the addition of sugars is almost totally abandoned.

Fundamental to the renewal of the production philosophy of the Domaine was Leonard Humbrechet, father of Olivier, who returned from a stay in Burgundy, where he learned the secrets of the great wines of the Cote-d'Or, understanding that to get truly exceptional wines you must create "cuvées" different for each vineyard, whereas before all the grapes of the same variety were mixed regardless of their origin. In the vineyards of the family, distributed in five municipalities of Haut-Rhin, there are almost exclusively the two varieties most representative of the region: Riesling and Gewurztraminer from which are produced absolutely exceptional wines.
