Aglianico 'Kleos' Luigi Maffini 2023
Organic and biodynamicThe Aglianico "Kleos" presents a balsamic and citrusy olfactory profile before giving way to spicy notes. On the palate, it is dry and authoritative, juicy and rich in aromas derived from aging in oak barrels. A great structure for a wine with excellent quality/price ratio
The Aglianico "Kleos" by Luigi Maffini is a label that interprets this extraordinary red grape variety from our south in the name of freshness and fragrance, offering a young and immediate version. A delicate and low-extraction vinification, combined with a measured use of wood during the aging phase, allows for the appreciation of the generous fruity profile of the grapes, rich and ripe. A splendid expression of the Cilento land, it is a medium-structured red with great drinkability. Particularly versatile in food pairings, it is suitable for accompanying grilled or roasted meat dishes.
The red Aglianico "Kleos" is born in the estate of Luigi Maffini, located in the Cilento peninsula, in the protected and unspoiled area of the "Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park". The vineyards are situated in a beautiful hilly area overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, among olive trees and Mediterranean scrub. The soil is composed of the Flysch of Cilento, made up of clay sedimentations and limestone, particularly suitable for the vine. The Aglianico vines are cultivated in two different areas of the property. The largest vineyard is located in Giungano, near Paestum, and was planted in 2006 at an altitude of about 350 meters above sea level, while the Castellabate vineyard was planted in 1999 on special soils characterized by the presence of silt, sands, and clay. The harvest takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October. After destemming, the grapes are sent for fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 25 °C, with a brief maceration on the skins lasting about a week. Before being bottled, the wine matures in second and third passage oak barriques.
The Aglianico "Kleos", produced by the Cilento winery of Luigi Maffini, is a pleasant version of the famous Campanian grape variety. It comes from one of the most interesting areas of Campania, which in recent decades has managed to stand out with wines of excellent quality, characterized by a marked personality, sunny and Mediterranean. In the glass, it presents a dark ruby red color with slight violet reflections. On the nose, it recalls aromas of cherry, black currant, berry jam, delicately spiced hints, and nuances of aromatic herbs. It is a medium-bodied red, with a smooth sip, characterized by elegant tannins and a rich and fragrant fruit. The finish is fresh and has good taste persistence.
