Alta Langa Extra Brut 'Millesimato' Magnum Marcalberto 2021
The Sparkling Magnum Vintage by Marcalberto is an elegant and intense expression of the Asti Langhe, vinified in oak barrels with a second fermentation in the bottle and aged for 42 months before disgorgement. It presents itself with a golden color and fruity and toasted aromas, of yeasts, hazelnuts, and fresh bread. The tasting reveals dynamism, freshness, liveliness, and great balance. A Magnum format for great events!
The Alta Langa Millesimato Magnum Extra Brut from the Piedmontese sparkling wine house Marcalberto is born from the meeting of Pinot Nero and Chardonnay, configuring itself as a valuable expression of a single vintage. Strong from a production inspired by great Champagnes, the Marcalberto winery has been producing high-quality sparkling wines since 1996, the year of the estate's foundation. Among the factors that determine the high level of this Metodo Classico is the use of the “Marmonnier” Coquard press, employed precisely in Champagne for the delicate pressing of the grapes, as well as the skillful use of wood, fundamental to enhance the expression of the sparkling wine.
The Millesimato Extra Brut Alta Langa Marcalberto in Magnum format is made from a blend of Pinot Nero and Chardonnay grapes grown in soils characterized by a high presence of marls and limestone. Following the harvest, carried out in the last decade of August, the grapes are vinified separately through soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation without contact with the skins. The aging of the base wine lasts for about 7 months and takes place in used wooden barrels, with batonnage weekly. At this point, the sparkling wine is bottled according to the Metodo Classico, associated with at least 36 months of aging on the lees before disgorgement and the final dosage as Extra Brut, at 3.5 g/l of residual sugars. The entire process then excludes the use of clarification or filtration operations.
The Magnum Marcalberto Metodo Classico Alta Langa Extra Brut Millesimato is of an intense straw yellow color with golden hues and fine, persistent effervescence. The nose reveals inviting notes of yellow-fleshed fruit, honey, toasted dried fruit, and freshly baked bread. Structured, dry, and enveloping is the sip, with pleasant freshness giving liveliness to the progression, balancing the creamy softness of the bubbles.
