Marcalberto
Marcalberto is a small family-run winery specializing in the production of classic method sparkling wines in Santo Stefano Belbo, in the heart of the Asti Langhe. It was founded in 1993 by winemaker Piero Cane, who successfully marketed his small production starting in 1996. Today, this small artisanal maison is run by his sons Marco and Alberto, to whom the winery is dedicated.
The vineyards of Marcalberto are all cultivated with Chardonnay and Pinot Nero and extend for 9 hectares along the municipalities of Calosso, Cossano Belbo, and Santo Stefano Belbo on marl-limestone soils between 300 and 500 meters in latitude. The winery's headquarters, where the entire production process takes place, is housed in a historic 19th-century building and, built of stone and tuff, represents the ideal place for aging sparkling wines on the lees in the bottle. The entire production process is entirely managed with great expertise by the members of the Cane family, from vineyard management to the marketing of sparkling wines, including fermentations in small oak barrels not new, to refermentation in the bottle and aging on the lees for at least 2 years.
The Marcalberto sparkling wines are the result of the values of genuineness and transparency that guide the Cane family. All sparkling bases are, for example, naturally clarified by static decantation, without filtration or clarification. This gives rise to elegant, fresh, and fruity sparkling wines, characterized by a good drinkability and a tense and vertical profile. True excellences of the classic method in the Asti Piemonte, where it all began.
