Amarone Vigneto Monte Sant'Urbano by Speri tells the story of a family that has turned qualitative continuity and local roots into a central objective of their production process, becoming a landmark not only for the agricultural history of Valpolicella, but for the whole wine scene in Italy. Part of this vision is the choice, adopted by the Speri winemakers, to only work with their own grapes, to adopt only planting systems that are more congenial to traditional local varieties, and to opt for cultivation systems that keep a low environmental impact.
The Speri family estate vineyards are located entirely within the area of Valpolicella, at an altitude varying between 150 and 350 meters above sea level, divided into prestigious crus (whose grapes are always vinified separately) and bordered by "marogne", traditional dry stone walls featured by an important historical value. Right in the center of this area lies the vineyard Sant'Urbano, a place of rare beauty where vine, olive trees and cherry trees seem to find an ideal habitat, between the sinuous curves of the hills in the municipality of Fumane.
From these 19 hectares of limestone and volcanic soil Amarone Vigneto Monte Sant'Urban is born, an undisputed symbol of the Speri family, as an excellent example of finesse and classicism. After a careful selection of the best grapes in the prestigious vineyards, the grapes are dried for a long period (3-4 months depending on the year): the best grapes are carefully hand-selected and arranged on the traditional "arele" (screens); then they are left to rest under controlled humidity. They loose about 40% humidity, with a consequent concentration of sugars, aromatic substances and tannins. This is the fundamental basis for the construction of a wine of great structure, with a great complexity and an indisputable longevity.
