Arneis 'Blangé' Ceretto 2024
"Blangé" is the famous Arneis from the Ceretto winery: a white wine that is rich and fragrant, vinified in steel using the cryomaceration technique, which has become a cult icon of the Langhe. It emanates intense aromas of white flowers, peach and tropical fruit. The taste is rich and fruity, with hints of apple, pear, peach, vanilla and plenty of tropical fruit.
The Blangé is a cult white wine from Piemonte, a rich and exuberant expression of the indigenous grape variety Arneis that became an icon in the 1980s and 1990s. Its success endures today and it is present in restaurants all over the world as one of the most famous whites from Italy, a best seller and a long seller at the same time. It was born in 1985 from the intuition of the Ceretto family as a great gamble by brothers Bruno and Marcello who, during the glory period of great red wines from Piemonte, rediscovered a nearly forgotten grape variety: Arneis. An innovative and unthinkable choice at the time that instead turned out to be a brilliant and winning intuition.
The name of Arneis Ceretto comes from the dialectal pronunciation of one of the first plots from which the Caretto Brothers began to produce this label. It refers to the 'vineyard of the baker', 'boulanger' in French, so named because it was once owned by a French baker who arrived in the 1700s in Roero following the armistice of Cherasco. The word French influence contributed to its great success, along with the graphics featuring an innovative and captivating design: a transparent bottle with a white label in golden letters designed by Silvio Coppola, an internationally renowned Milanese architect.
The characteristics that have made Ceretto Blangé so famous are due to the bold and artistic spirit of winemaker Donato Lanati who, to enhance its charge and aromatic intensity, inaugurated in the 1980s the cryomaceration technique, which is the contact of the skins with the must for about 12 hours at a temperature of 5°C. This technique promotes the maximum extraction of the primary aromas of the grape while safeguarding the aromatic cleanliness and delicacy of the fruit. The aromas are indeed intense and varied: pear, apple, peach, citrus, and lots of tropical fruit. The sip confirms the intensely fruity soul, combined with a balanced freshness and good persistence. A white that has made history among the whites of Langhe and that still confirms today as very pleasant and captivating, appreciated by wine lovers from all over the world, loved by young people and women.
