BARBARESCO GAJA 2019 DESCRIPTION

Gaja's Barbaresco is a wine endowed with immense richness and expressiveness, produced by a legendary winery in Langhe. Angelo Gaja is one of those names that will thrill any wine lover, as his interpretations have resulted in immortal bottles, which tasted today even 50 years after the harvest are perfectly whole and ready. A quality revolution, almost pioneering, since in the 1960s the idea of reducing yields per hectare so as to favor quality viticulture was by no means taken for granted. A choice that has certainly proved Angelo right, given the incredible and growing success of his wines, which are now in demand all over the world. Valuable bottles, to be given a place of honor in the cellar and to be opened at the right time to fully enjoy their exquisite complexity!

Red Barbaresco is made from pure Nebbiolo grapes grown in the well-known Piedmontese commune that gives the appellation its name. The bunches, selected with almost maniacal care, come from 14 estate vineyards located at varying altitudes between 250 and 330 meters above sea level while the extremely low yields, typical in the Gaja house, are around 40 hl. Fermentation takes place in steel containers and aging involves 6 months in barriques and another 18 in large oak barrels. Longevity that cannot be quantified!

The Barbaresco wine has an intense ruby hue that turns to garnet with time. Rich on the nose and capable of bringing together two souls, a more typical and traditional one a more modern one. The palate is complex, from wilted violets to berries, from wild rose to licorice, from cocoa to cloves. Plus touches of vanilla, cinnamon, and graphite. After the several minutes devoted to the olfactory part, we move on to the tasting, which can be both velvety and vigorous, imposing and endowed with a soft texture. An unstoppable progression, for a wine that never seems to end.
