Barbaresco Gaja 2022
Rare wines
Perfect to give as a giftThe Barbaresco by Gaja is one of the most prestigious, elegant and well-known Italian wines in the world. It is intense, soft and velvety, with an impeccable bouquet of berries, violets and woody nuances. It is aged for 24 months in barrique and large casks. Class and power in liquid form!
The Barbaresco by Gaja is a wine with immense richness and expressiveness, produced by a legendary winery in the Langhe. Angelo Gaja is one of those names that excites any wine enthusiast, as his interpretations have given life to immortal bottles, which, even after 50 years from the harvest, are perfectly intact and ready to be enjoyed. A qualitative revolution, almost pioneering, as in the 1960s the idea of reducing yields per hectare to favor quality viticulture was by no means obvious. A choice that has certainly proven Angelo right, given the incredible and growing success of his wines, now highly sought after all over the world. Prestigious bottles, to be given a place of honor in the cellar, opened at the right moment to fully enjoy their exquisite complexity!
The red Barbaresco is obtained from pure Nebbiolo grapes, cultivated in the well-known Piedmontese municipality that gives its name to the denomination. The bunches, selected with almost manic care, come from 14 owned vineyards located at altitudes varying between 250 and 330 meters above sea level, while the extremely low yields, typical of Gaja, hover around 40 hl. Fermentation takes place in steel containers and aging involves 6 months in barriques and another 18 in large oak barrels. Longevity that cannot be quantified!
The Barbaresco wine presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby color that over time shifts towards garnet. A truly rich nose, capable of bringing together two souls, one more typical and traditional and another more modern. There is everything in this psychedelic olfaction, from wilted violets to berries, from dog rose to licorice, from cocoa to cloves. And then touches of vanilla, cinnamon, and graphite. After several minutes dedicated to the olfactory part, we move on to tasting, which is both caressing and vigorous, imposing and endowed with velvety tactile quality. An unstoppable progression, for a liquid that seems never-ending. A thoroughbred.
