Barbaresco Rizzi 2021
The Barbaresco by Rizzi is a robust red wine aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels and 12 months in cement and steel. With excellent aging potential, austere and with significant tannins: mineral, spicy, fruity, and intense
The Barbaresco from Rizzi paints a faithful portrait of the famous Nebbiolo from Langa, brother of Barolo. Appreciated by many for its delicate qualities, Barbaresco is a wine that elegantly enhances the character of a fascinating grape variety like Nebbiolo. The Rizzi family's winery consists of 35 hectares of vineyard, of which 15 are cultivated with Nebbiolo from Barbaresco and located in various subzones recognized by the denomination. On the homonymous hill, the family owns several vineyards, each of which is able to offer grapes characterized by unique and unrepeatable traits. The blending of all these parcels, during vinification, allows for the creation of a wine with a complex and articulated personality.
The Barbaresco Rizzi is obtained solely from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from different vineyards situated at altitudes ranging from 220 to 310 meters above sea level in the Rizzi cru. The harvest takes place manually during the first part of October. Once in the winery, the grapes are pressed and the resulting must is placed in steel tanks, where it will undergo the alcoholic fermentation. At the end of it, malolactic fermentation begins spontaneously, which is essential to soften the typical angular traits of the variety. Following a maturation of 12-15 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, there are 8 months of maturation in cement tanks, concluding with further aging in bottle before being released to the market, 3 years after the harvest.
The Rizzi Barbaresco presents a garnet red color that, with aging, gives way to bright reflections in orange tones. Its aroma recalls red fruits and underbrush, which stand out clearly against a floral and spicy background. On the palate, the tannin and structure display all their elegance and finesse, while never lacking firmness and character. Sapidity and softness proceed in balance in a long finish. Despite its rare innate class, it remains at a level of great accessibility and excellent quality-price ratio, to introduce everyone to the elegance of the principal grape variety of Langa.
