Barbera d'Asti 'La Crena' Vietti 2022

Nizza "La Crena" is a Barbera produced by Vietti, an illustrious name from the area of Castiglione Falletto. The label represents a very interesting version of the famous Piedmontese grape, far from the idea of a simple everyday wine. The quality of the grapes, coming from historic vineyards of the estate, and a long aging in wood, give rise to a harmonious and complex red, which allows discovering the nobler face of the grape. The exuberance of the fruit and the incisive freshness are softened and become elements of a broader, softer, and enveloping aromatic palette, which captivates with richness and intensity.

The Barbera Nizza "La Crena" is born in one of the historic cellars of the Langhe. Since the early 1900s, Vietti has been producing great wines in the name of the best Piedmontese tradition. The Barbera vines are cultivated in the La Crena area, which is located in the municipality of Agliano Terme. These are old vines of particular value, about 6 hectares, that still preserve vines planted in the 1930s on a soil mainly composed of silt and clay. The sunny exposure facing south guarantees a perfect ripening of the grapes, which arrive at harvest with very rich aromas. The best bunches are sent for fermentation in open stainless steel tanks, with a maceration on the skins and periodic délestage. The wine ages for 18 months, partly in barrique, partly in large barrels, and partly in steel, so that the contribution of the wood is not too invasive.

The Nizza "La Crena" wine from Vietti is an interpretation of Barbera that highlights its best expressive qualities. It is a red of beautiful fabric, perfect to pair with first courses with meat and game ragù or with roasted red meats. In the glass, it presents a dark ruby red color with bright reflections. The olfactory profile is rich and mature, with aromas of cherry, blackberry, sour cherry, small dark berry fruits, soft aromas of oriental spices, light toasted hints of roasting, and memories of noble woods.
