Barolo 'Marenca' Luigi Pira 2021
The Barolo "Marenca" 2012 by Luigi Pira is a robust and complex wine, aged in small and large barrels for 24 months. Aromas of underbrush, tobacco, and balsamic herbs enliven a rich and significant sip, powerful yet well balanced.
The Barolo “Marenca” is one of the prestigious red wines from the Luigi Pira winery, one of the most appreciated realities in Serralunga d’Alba, a great name in Barolo. Played on a rich and complex aromatic spectrum, where hints of underbrush and sweet and balsamic notes stand out, the “Marenca” is the expression of the homonymous cru, father of powerful wines that fully reflect all the peculiarities of the denomination.
The Barolo “Marenca” Luigi Pira is born in two hectares of vineyard included in the Marenca cru. Here, at 350 meters above sea level, a calcareous and clayey soil hosts a vineyard planted in 1990, exposed to the west in the municipality of Serralunga. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in horizontal fermenters, under the strict control of Gianpaolo Pira. The aging of 24 months involves the passage from small wooden barrels to larger barrels. The use of different woods characterizes the entire production of the winery and allows for the creation of complex wines, always very convincing.(rose, roots, licorice, blackberry, soil) combined with notes of resin and balsamic herbs. The tasting is very vigorous, powerful, and well-structured. The tannins are lively and pleasant, softened by the good use of wood, which is completely assimilated. The finish is entrusted to a floral closure and mineral and spicy trails that create great suggestion and prolong the enchantment.
