The Barolo "Sarmassa" is born among the vineyards of the Giacomo Brezza estate, cultivated under organic farming practices, in full respect of nature. The grapes come from the Sarmassa cru, located in the municipality of Barolo, north of the homonymous village, towards the border with the La Morra area. It is a plot of 1 hectare, situated at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, with west and southwest exposure. The name of the cru very probably derives from the term salmassa, which indicated an ancient brackish source of the area. The soils are made up of the famous Marne di Sant’Agata, composed of silt, clay, and sands, very draining and capable of retaining water at depth, without putting the plants under water stress in dry years. The Nebbiolo vines are of the Lampia and Michet varieties and at the end of the harvest, the grapes are vinified in red with fermentation in steel tanks and a long maceration on the skins. The wine ages for about 2 years in large oak barrels and completes the aging period in the bottle.
The Barolo Sarmassa wine by Giacomo Brezza is a traditional interpretation of one of the most interesting crus in the Barolo area. It is a label that originates in an area famous for the production of elegant, fresh wines with a particularly fine tannic texture. It presents itself in the glass with a light ruby red color with garnet reflections. The profile is refined, with aromas of dried flowers, violet, hints of medicinal herbs, memories
