"Tortoniano" is a Barolo coming from soils composed of gray tuff marls dating back 9 million years. They have a marine sedimentary origin, endowed with active limestone and basic pH. There is a great abundance of magnesium and manganese within them. At the end of summer, the clusters are thinned, which constitutes a first selection activity of the grapes. The harvest takes place in October, by hand. This is followed by a maceration in contact with the skins for about 17/18 days, alcoholic fermentation, and malolactic fermentation, both inside steel containers. The aging phase has a minimum duration of 3 years, of which 24 months spent inside large and medium-sized barrels. Before commercialization, it matures for some time in the bottle.
Michele Chiarlo Barolo "Tortoniano" presents a garnet red color with beautiful brightness. Its aroma is articulated in notes of red fruit, rose petals, and a background composed of earth and spices, among which the juniper berry is recognized. On the palate, it is balanced in structure and freshness, as well as in its silky tannic texture. The life of this Barolo reveals great surprises, all to be discovered over time.
