CARMENERE 'CARMINIUM' INAMA 2018 DESCRIPTION

Carmenere "Carminium" from the Inama winery is a rich and intense wine that originates in the wonderful area of the Berici Hills, which has always had a great vocation for growing red grapes coming from Bordeaux. In the past, Carmenère was often confused with Cabernet Franc, and only recently the two varieties have been clearly distinguished in the vineyard. Inama has decided to focus heavily on enhancing the value of Carmenère in order to highlight its interesting special characteristics. This Bordeaux grape variety, son of Cabernet Franc and Moural Noir is, in fact, able to give very pleasant reds, characterized by aromas of dark berries, spices and herbs.

Carmenere wine "Carminium" comes from one of the most interesting and innovative wineries in Veneto. Inama is a historic name in the Soave area. The acquisitions of the first vineyards on Monte Foscarino date back to the 1950s, and other prestigious plots were later added to the initial nucleus. In recent decades, white wine production has been joined by red wine production with the acquisition of a large estate in the Berici Hills area. Among the Bordeaux grape varieties, Inama has chosen to focus on Carmenère, the least famous but probably the best suited to the red clay soils, rich in iron minerals in the area south of Vicenza. Continuous research and a company philosophy that has always focused on quality have led to the production of red wines of great value and territorial typicality, which today represent some of the best expressions of the Vicenza area.

The "Carminium" Carmenere is the result of a research project on this variety, which has been carried out for many years, but was born only recently. The grapes come from a selection of the vineyard, which is located in Oratorio San Lorenzo. The vines are about 15 years old and are grown an altitude between 50 and 250 meters, with southern exposure. At the end of the classic red vinification process, with maceration on the skins for a couple of weeks, the wine ages for 12 months, 20 percent in new barriques and 80 percent in used barriques. Carmenère has a dark ruby red color with light purplish highlights. To the nose it expresses aromas of oriental spices, herbs, small dark berries and hints of underbrush. The sip is intense and immediate, with soft tannins, rich and enveloping, anticipating a harmonious and very persistent finish.
