Chardonnay Marchesi di Gresy 2022
The Chardonnay from the Marchesi di Gresy is a white of great structure, a Piedmontese expression of a classic Burgundy. The grapes are grown on Monte Aribaudo near Treiso and subsequently the must matures for a long period in wood, for as long as 22 months, which gives it body, softness, and tertiary notes of spices and toasting. Notably, the pleasant savoriness accompanies the sip and lingers long
The Langhe Chardonnay “Grésy” from the Marchesi di Grésy winery represents the challenge of vinification in Piedmont conducted according to the traditional stylistic canons of Burgundy and, at the same time, a tribute to that land which has been able to elaborate centuries of winemaking history and dedicate itself to this specific native variety. Behind this label lies the romantic story of Giulia Pellizzari and the Marquis Carlo di Grésy, who built the residence of Villa Giulia in 1900 for his bride, the estate that dominates the summit of Monte Aribaldo and marks today the birthplace of this Chardonnay.
The grapes that give life to the Langhe Chardonnay “Grésy” from the Marchesi di Grésy come from the hill called Monte Aribaldo, located in the territory of the municipality of Treiso at an altitude that varies between 320 and 380 meters above sea level. The estate consists of a centuries-old park that separates the Villa from the farmhouse and a vineyard that extends for about 10 hectares in a single body all around the top of the hill: the parcel dedicated to Chardonnay measures almost 3 hectares, has a north/west exposure and a soil characterized by the presence of tuff and limestone. The harvest of the ripe grapes is completed manually, then in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and pressed. The clarified must is fermented in French oak barriques and subsequently, still in these woods, the long period of aging that lasts for 22 months takes place, on the fine lees.
The appearance of Langhe Chardonnay “Grésy” from the Marchesi di Grésy is striking, starting from its intense color, a warm straw yellow with golden reflections. The aromas that the glass releases are decidedly intense, consistent with the expectation of the sight: fruity, sharp, and fresh notes of citrus and cut apple stand out, then exotic and ripe notes of pineapple and banana, which evolve into a honeyed sweetness with hints of butter cookie. In closure, toasted and mineral notes emerge. The tasting reveals a dense and structured wine, played on soft sensations where, however, a great freshness and a vertical saline vein stand out.vertical and persistent. A white to dare with foie gras and blue cheeses or creamy dishes.
