Chianti Classico Riserva Querciabella 2021
The Chianti Classico Riserva by Querciabella is a beautiful expression of pure Sangiovese that is aged for 14-16 months in French barriques. On the nose, notes of cherries and rose alternate with tobacco and wet earth, while the sip is supported by body and intensity and a beautiful freshness
The Chianti Classico Riserva from the Querciabella winery is an intense, elegant red wine with good structure, produced, in this reserve version, only in the best vintages. This label is made from pure Sangiovese grapes sourced from a careful selection of the best lots located in the municipalities of Radda in Chianti, Gaiole, and Greve, an area in the heart of the Chianti Classico denomination and one of the most vocated regions for the production of high-quality wines. The vineyards, situated with a south, southeast, and southwest exposure, at an altitude ranging from 350 to 550 meters, are found on mixed soils characterized by sandstone and schist in the Greve area, with the addition of slate as one ascends towards the higher-altitude vineyards of Radda, including soils rich in rocky calcium carbonate in the Gaiole area. The winery, founded in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni in Greve in Chianti and now managed by his son Sebastiano, owns more than 100 hectares of vineyard, entirely cultivated according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture, making it today the largest Italian reality committed to carrying forward a production philosophy of this kind.
The Querciabella Chianti Classico Riserva is produced from carefully selected and hand-picked grapes, using 9-kilogram capacity crates, in early October. The grapes, destemmed and gently crushed to extract the must, are then fermented in large 25-hectoliter French oak barrels, with skin maceration for about 12 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in barriques and tonneaux, 20% of which are new, for a period of 16-20 months. It is important to note that in the production of this label, as with all products from this winery, no animal-derived products or by-products are used in the transformation processes, making it fully suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
The Querciabella Chianti Classico presents itself with a deep ruby red color, with intense aromas of red fruit on the nose, including cherry and currant, floral notes, including violet, aromatic herbs, including dried oregano, hints of sweet spices, including cinnamon and tobacco, and light balsamic notes reminiscent of roasted coffee. On the palate, it is soft, complex, and rich, with a silky and very fine tannin. This Querciabella is a great Chianti, produced with a keen focus on quality, to bring to life in the sip the beauty of this territory.
