Friulano 'Primarul' Venica 2024
The Friulano "Primarul" by Venica is a white wine from Collio with a fresh, typical, and round sip, matured for a few months on the lees in steel containers. On the palate, it expresses a fragrant, immediate sip, medium-bodied, and with a pleasant mineral freshness, marked by notes of white fruit, vegetal hints, delicate floral scents, and a typical nuance of toasted almond.
The Friulano "Primarul" from the famous Collio winery Venica is the most typical white of this corner of Friuli on the border with Slovenia. Once known as Tocai, it is produced from an ancient French grape variety from the Bordeaux area, Sauvignonasse, which arrived in Italy during the 19th century. In the sunny and mild hilly area of Collio Goriziano, it has found the ideal conditions to produce a intense, fruity, and harmonious white, which has quickly become the everyday wine of the region and the emblem of the area.
“Primarul” is a pure Friulano, born in the beautiful estate of Collio from the Venica winery. The vineyards are located in the hilly area of Dolegna del Collio, characterized by a cool and breezy climate and soils made up of marls and sandstones rich in minerals. This is one of the historically most suitable areas in Italy for the production of great whites, intense and fruity. The Friulano grapes are harvested from the most suitable vineyards of the estate. The harvest takes place manually in the first mid-September. The grapes undergo a cold maceration in oxygen-protected tanks to avoid oxidation, at a temperature of 10-12 °C for 12-14 hours. At the end of the soft pressing, the must ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures in steel tanks on the lees for about 6 months.
The Friulano "Primarul" by Venica is a beautiful version of this classic from the Collio tradition. A great table white, it pairs very well with seafood pasta dishes, vegetable-based preparations, or a platter of San Daniele ham. In the glass, it presents a bright and luminous pale yellow color. The olfactory profile recalls the scents of wildflowers, aromatic herbs, fragrant citrus, aromas of white-fleshed fruit, peach, and fresh almond. On the palate, it shows good structure, with a harmonious and satisfying sip, rich in ripe and dense fruity aromas, which extend towards the finish characterized by a clear saline trail. The closure is of good persistencetasting, fruity, and balanced, with the characteristic almond nuance.
