The Gamay ‘Banlieue Rouge’ by Yvan Bernard represents an extraordinary French interpretation of purity and authenticity produced in the wine region of Auvergne. In 2001, at just 22 years old, Yvan began dedicating himself to winemaking in this area, cultivating grapes from rented vineyards as he did not have any family-owned ones. Over the years, the Domaine has grown and now boasts 8 hectares of owned vineyards. In 2009, the estate converted to organic farming, while 8 years later it embraced biodynamics, rejecting any invasive interventions and the use of synthetic chemical substances, and resorting to the use of the lunar calendar and herbal preparations.
Yvan Bernard Gamay ‘Banlieue Rouge’ is a 100% Gamay from vines cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic farming on volcanic soils mainly composed of clay and limestone. Once ripe, the clusters are hand-harvested and then fermented in stainless steel tanks, where spontaneous alcoholic fermentation occurs thanks to the sole intervention of the naturally present yeasts on the grapes and in the cellar environment. The mass is elevated in the same steel tanks for several months before bottling, which takes place without prior clarification, filtration, and sulfitation.
The ‘Banlieue Rouge’ Yvan Bernard Gamay has a brilliant violet-red color. The nose offers hints of small red fruits such as currants and raspberries, supported by floral notes and delicately spicy perceptions. Light and juicy on the palate, with vibrant freshness accompanied by well-integrated tannins. The Gamay ‘Banlieue Rouge’ impresses with its simple and sincere soul, as well as its distinctly fruity finish.
