Grechetto Raina 2023
ArtisanalThe Grechetto from the Raïna winery is a juicy, territorial, and refreshing expression of the hilly Umbrian territory. It is produced with a short skin maceration that gives it a beautiful golden color and subtle, unexpected aromas of aromatic and balsamic herbs. The sip is fresh, tense, juicy, savory, and very expressive.
The Grechetto di Raina is a white wine with a strong personality, presenting ripe fruity aromas, good body, balanced freshness, a clear sapid vein, and a delicately almondy finish, typical of the grape variety. A very interesting wine, with good aromatic persistence, that finds its ideal place at the table. The Grechetto is a wine that reaffirms the great white wine tradition of Umbria, also in the area of Montefalco, generally known as a zone for great long-aging reds based on Sagrantino grapes.
The white Grechetto is produced in Montefalco, in the green heart of Umbria, by Francesco Mariani, who manages his vineyards according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. The estate extends over 10 hectares, planted between 2002 and 2008, at an altitude of between 220 and 300 meters above sea level with a southeast exposure. The vineyards are trained in guyot, with a planting density of about 5700 vines per hectare, on medium-textured soils rich in skeleton. The grapes are harvested in September and after a 2-day maceration on the skins, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with the use of only indigenous yeasts. The wine matures on the fine lees in steel for a period of 5 months and is bottled without filtration or clarification.
The Grechetto wine confirms the great vocation of Umbria to produce white wines with indigenous grapes endowed with great personality. Thanks to its structure and aromas, the Grechetto di Raina shines in pairing with both fish dishes and white meats. It has a fairly intense straw yellow color. The aromas recall white flowers, citrus fruits, ripe yellow fruit, and herbs of the Mediterranean scrub. The sip is intense, juicy, and sapid, with the right freshness and a finish that returns to delicately almondy notes.
