“La Romanée” Grand Cru Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a bottle of great prestige, born in one of the most famous wine places in the world. La Romanée is a true pearl of the Côte de Nuits and is located in the territory of Vosne-Romanée, which hosts 6 legendary Grand Crus. Their fame is due to the patient work carried out more than a thousand years ago by the monks of Cluny and the Cistercian monks of Cîteaux, who highlighted the value of the best parcels of the region. It is an elegant and refined wine, intense and deep, made with pure Pinot Noir. The traditional vinification, conducted with extreme care and attention, and a long aging in noble woods, give a sip characterized by aromas of berries enriched by delicate tertiary notes.
“La Romanée” Grand Cru is born in a recently created estate, which rests on more than two centuries of experience. The Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair extends over a total of 10.5 hectares with parcels located in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Flagey-Echezeaux,all the mythical terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyards are managed according to biodynamic principles and with low yields, in order to always obtain high-quality, concentrated grapes with rich and balanced aromas. The cuvée comes from a plot of less than one hectare that borders Romanée-Conti, Aux Reignots, and Richebourg. The vines are about 50 years old and are cultivated on a sloping terrain made up of precious limestone-clay marls. The harvest is done manually, and the grapes are carefully selected on a sorting table before being sent for vinification. After a cryomaceration, fermentation takes place with skin maceration and periodic pump-overs. The wine matures between 12 and 18 months in French oak barrels made by three cooperages that work with oak from different forests.
“La Romanée” Grand Cru Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is an extraordinary Pinot Noir for long aging, which reaches its full expressive maturity only after a few years of aging in the bottle and has a longevity of 20-30 years. In the glass, it presents a beautiful ruby color with garnet red hues. The aromatic profile is characterized by aromas of small red berries, currants, sour cherries, raspberries, hints of underbrush, spicy notes, and nuances of noble woods. With good structure, it has dense but mature and velvety tannins that blend with complex aromas of great elegance. The finish is fresh and very persistent.
