The Margaux ‘Le Hameau’ from the biodynamic estate Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a classic Bordeaux blend that showcases the Margaux territory under a refined and seductive guise, with remarkable balance. This label is part of the ‘Les Parcelles’ project, which includes a trio of labels derived from intra-parcel viticulture aimed at highlighting the unique characteristics of some of the selected plots from the estate. Among these, ‘Le Hameau’, literally “the village”, encapsulates all the elegance signed by Chateau Durfort-Vivens.
‘Le Hameau’ Chateau Durfort-Vivens Margaux consists of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (20%), and Cabernet Franc (8%), sourced from 11 different plots owned by the estate distributed between the villages of Margaux and Cantenac. The vines, characterized by an average age of 20-25 years, are cultivated under certified organic and biodynamic regimes on predominantly sandy soils with a high presence of gravel. The alcoholic fermentation occurs entirely
spontaneously, without the use of selected yeasts and oenological inputs, with the subsequent aging phase lasting 16 months taking place in a combination of terracotta amphorae (85%) and new oak barriques (15%). This is followed by blending and an additional period of resting in glass before final commercialization. To the eye, Chateau Durfort-Vivens Margaux ‘Le Hameau’ reveals a brilliant ruby red color. From the glass emerge intriguing hints of ripe red fruits and violet that meet aromas of licorice and a pleasant spicy vein. On the palate, it is juicy, fresh, and soft, with fine and well-integrated tannins that anticipate the persistent fruity finish. An elegant expression of the traditional Bordeaux blend, to be enjoyed in youth or to be left to rest for many years to witness its evolution.
